Whats best setting for a nikon d80 and sb-800 for outdoor portraits , any advice on shutter speed use the?

manual setting, portrait setting. i'm using nikon 24-70 1:2.8 g ed lens .

Stay away from the Vari Programs.





Shoot in A to control DOF and it depends on the lighting conditions outside.


I would use center weighted metering or spot depending on the lighting conditions and focus on the eyes. Get yourself a tripod too for some shots. I would start at F- 5.6 and again depending on the light you may or may not need the flash depending on cloud coverage or shadows. Start experimenting. I would shoot real early in the morning or right around dinner time so contrast levels are not so high.
